!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Hi lovely Oppo peoples. Looking at getting a new 4 Runner or Grand Cherokee. For the 4 Runner would either be limited or SR5 Premium. And found this “XP Package”.

Wanted to know peoples thoughts of the package. Believe it is unique to Southeast toyota dealerships. I think the package with the Dark grey color looks pretty decent. Thoughts?

THANKS

Waaaay better than the 4Runner Vista package.

If you want something newer, I’d suggest the 4Runner 7 package. Most of the kinks from the Vista package have been sorted out in that one.

Smoother, but the final 10 package is the best right now.

Some things to note about the current 4Runner:

It’s really high up off the ground. You pretty much absolutely need running boards. You are super high up. Much higher than a Grand Cherokee.

Full-time 4wd (a.k.a. awd with a center differential) is only available on the 4Runner Limited. All the other trims have part-time shift-on-the-fly 4wd. Full-time 4wd is standard on the Grand Cherokee.

The SR5 Premium even though it can be had with things like heated leather seats and navigation, only comes with manual climate control.

The standard Dunlop Grandtrek tires on the 4Runner are absolute shit.

The 4Runner’s window switches are for some reason in this weird location at the top of the door panel.

In spite of these things, the 4Runner will probably hold its value much better than a Grand Cherokee.

I have an ’05 Grand Cherokee for winters.

Personally, I hate part-time 4wd. It’s fine if you’re off-roading and you want to lock the front & rear axles together, but I prefer having awd with a center LSD. I’m in Wisconsin and in winter, road conditions vary a lot. I’d rather leave it in awd and let the diff sort things out than have to go in and out of rwd and 4H with the axles locked together.

Full-time 4wd used to be standard on the 4Runner from 2001 thru 2009 but Toyota cheaped out on the 5th gen and went back to a part-time system on all trims except the Limited. If you’re somewhere that doesn’t get a lot of snow and you don’t really need 4wd anyway, then this is less of a concern.

Until the current style of 4Runner, generally they were about the same size on the outside as Grand Cherokees, a bit taller, but more cramped inside and you kinda sat on the floor, because the Jeep is unibody and the 4Runner is body-on-frame.

The current 4Runner is much roomier than the old ones, because it’s also a lot taller. My old Grand Cherokee is 67” tall, the new ones are 69” tall, the 4Runner is now 74” tall.

The Grand Cherokee gives you more 4wd capability with optional rear LSD (on mine all 3 diffs are LSDs but Jeep no longer offers a front LSD), different terrain modes, etc. The 4Runner Trail has some fancy off-road gizmos, but even that one has part-time 4wd.

Build quality and resale value are way better on the 4Runner. I got my Grand Cherokee for cheap so I’m not going to take a big depreciation hit since I didn’t pay much for it in the first place.

The XP 4Runners (and other XP models) look awesome, but few know about them. I saw this one back in April, when we were buying my dad’s xB. The package is expensive (costs the same as an SR5 Premium, but this was a very basic RWD SR5). Find an XP with 4WD and go for it (if you’re in the southeast).
